Patrick Vieira admits his reunion with fellow Arsenal legend Thierry Henry ahead of Nice’s 1-1 draw with Monaco was ‘really weird’.

The two Frenchmen made hundreds of appearances as team-mates for both club and country during their playing days, but came up against each other on the touchline for the first time on Wednesday evening. Benoit Badiashile Mukinayi’s header in the 50th minute cancelled out Allan Saint-Maximin’s first-half strike and Vieira and Henry had to settle for a point apiece at the Stade Louis II. The result meant Nice jumped to sixth in the Ligue 1 table while Monaco remain in 19th, just one point off bottom-placed Guingamp.
Asked about his meeting with Henry ahead of kick-off, Vieira replied: ‘We both just wished each other luck, that’s all.’ ‘It was weird, really weird. When I saw him coming out of the locker room, it felt weird.
‘We walked the steps together, we used to climb them together when we played. It was really good, a wink. ‘But then there’s the game and you do what you have to do. ‘He did what he had to do, but it felt weird. We talked, we said a few things to each other.’
Nice midfielder Ihsan Sacko was sent off just before half-time and Vieira was pleased his side managed to hold on for a draw. ‘Monaco could have won at the end. In the first half, they had two chances where we put ourselves in danger by losing the ball,’ the former Arsenal and France midfielder said.
