RB Leipzig manager Ralf Rangnick believes striker Timo Werner should stay at the club and reject interest from Bayern Munich, insisting: 'At the moment he is in the best hands with us.'

The 22-year-old pacey forward has been a long-term target for the Bundesliga champions and reports recently suggested he was on Barcelona's radar.

The Germany international appears keen on a move to Munich but has also said he is in no rush to make a decision on his immediate future
Rangnick, who took over at Leipzig this summer until Julian Nagelsmann leaves Hoffenheim, believes his prized asset's development would benefit if he stayed put.

'I believe we said enough in the past about that subject. He has a contract until 2020 and he has a signature-ready extension of his contract on his table,' Rangnick said after his team lost at Bayern on Wednesday.

'He will think about that over Christmas and the winter break now. If he is well advised, I assume, since I know his agent for a long time, then he knows what he has here in Leipzig.

'I also do not think that this career development that he has made would have happened at any other club. That's why I assume he will stay with us.

'You will see what will be in three or four years. At the moment he is in the best hands with us.'
Werner has scored 13 goals in 20 games this season, which included a brace in the weekend win over Mainz.

He has netted 54 goals in 96 games for Leipzig after joining from Stuttgart for around £12million in 2016.

Werner has also made 23 appearances for his country and played every group match at this summer's World Cup as Joachim Low's side crashed out early on.
