It seems the era of Uli Hoeness at Bayern Munich is coming to an end.

Three weeks ago it was reported that Hoeness was considering resigning from his role as Bayern president and chairman of the supervisory board.

And now, the 67-year-old has reportedly confirmed he will be stepping down.

“I’ll stay on the board, but I’ll resign as president when the time comes,” Hoeness told German outlet Bild during Bayern’s Charity Golf Cup in Rieden this weekend.

Elections for a new club president will take place in November, and former adidas CEO Herbert Hainer is believed to be the favourite candidate to lead the Bundesliga giants into the new era.

“What was created here, sporting and socially, will not happen anywhere else in the world again,” Hoeness added.

“It’s the story that makes FC Bayern so adorable, we want to be different than those bags of money that are increasingly gaining the upper hand in our business.”

Hoeness was first elected president of Bayern in 2009 and his tenure at the club has so far yielded 44 trophies in all.
