There are conflicting reports over Jose Mourinho's job, Manchester City prepare to break their transfer record, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic could rejoin AC Milan.

Zidane asked to wait for United job
Manchester United are in contact with Zinedine Zidane, according to The Mirror. United have spoken to him in order to ask that he turns down any other offers as Jose Mourinho's job hangs in the balance. It is a move that the club have made before, when they asked Mourinho to keep himself available as they decided what to do with Louis van Gaal. The United hierarchy believe Zidane would lift the bleak mood at Old Trafford.

Quite why Zidane would wait for United is unclear. They are a glamorous side, but if he were offered the choice at another top European club, there would be little competition.

Mourinho claims vote of confidence
Jose Mourinho might have claimed he was the victim of a manhunt by the press after the game between Manchester United and Newcaste United, which he won 3-2, but he also said that he had received a text message in support of him from the board. The text is said to have come from executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, after reports he was set to be sacked.

Woodward promised Louis van Gaal that Sergio Ramos was on his way, and he told Mourinho that he was going to sign Toby Alderweireld from Spurs before reneging on the deal. There is no reason for Woodward to be trusted by Mourinho, especially as the Portuguese has already been in contact with Zidane to find out what is going on behind the scenes. A text message, overall, signifies nothing.
