After their exciting summer spending spree, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has an abundance of riches to choose from in the coming system.

And it will be interesting to see which tactics and systems the Frenchman deploys as Madrid look to return to the pinnacle of both Spanish and European football.

Here are three ways we can see Los Blancos lining up in 2019/20 …

Zidane’s preferred formation during his time in charge at the Bernabeu has always been a 433/4231.

With Eden Hazard coming in off the left, this promises to be a potent attacking XI and Zidane could choose between Luka Modrić, Isco, Rodrygo or (when fit again) Marco Asensio to play in the number 10 position.

The system deployed by Zidane in the 2018 Champions League final is also likely to be used on occasion in the 2019/20 campaign.

This formation gives the full-backs license to bomb on and also brings Hazard into a more central position.

But more importantly, it allows Zidane to partner new signing Luka Jović with Karim Benzema up front.

The classic 442 formation may be pretty unfashionable in the modern game, but it’s the best way Zidane could play Jović and Benzema together without sacrificing his side’s width.

With Casemiro alongside Toni Kroos in the middle, this system wouldn’t leave Madrid too exposed defensively either.
