Manchester United are struggling to get rid of Alexis Sánchez despite interest from Serie A.

Talks have been ongoing between United and Inter, with the Milan-based club interested in a loan deal. However, the Chilean’s staggering wages have left the move in doubt.

Alexis currently earns a reported £20m a year (£390k-a-week) at Old Trafford but, according to reports, Inter are only prepared to cover around £8m (£150k) of that.

The report suggests a loan deal now would likely have an option for Inter to make it permanent in 12 months. Then, though, United would be stuck paying Alexis a total of £36m over the next three years to ensure a deal goes through.

A move could be pushed through now if Alexis accepts a pay-cut but that seems unlikely.

The 30-year-old, who has scored just five goals in 45 appearances for United, is eager to keep earning the annual £20m salary on his United contract that runs to 2022.

As things stand, it seems Manchester United are reluctant to lose Alexis if they are still forced to pay such a large proportion of his wages.
